Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state says he is committed to achieving peace within the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Wike spoke after meeting with members of the party’s Board of Trustees at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital, Channels TV reported.
The governor said "the most important thing is to have peace,” he said. “The house is united. I am hopeful we will resolve the issues, because I am alive.
“Only those who are alive are hopeful. We have said repeatedly that we will not leave the party. We believe the internal issues will be resolved.”
Adolphus Wabara, the acting Chairman of the BoT, also hinted that progress had been made at the talks. “We have not concluded,” Wabara said.
“Making peace is difficult.But we have heard from his side. The family remains one. We shall achieve peace very soon.”
Meanwhile, the former chairman of the Board of Trustees for the PDP, Walid Jibrin has said that the crisis rocking the party is not unresolvable.
According to the Leadership reports, Jibrin assured that the crisis among key members of the PDP will soon become a thing of the past.
In a statement released in Kaduna, the former BoT chairman said his recent resignation from the party would strengthen the PDP.
