It made headlines that suspects in security custody named former Governor Rochas Okorocha and his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu as the alleged sponsors of bandits and insecurity in Imo State.
This was disclosed by the Imo State Government led by Governor Hope Uzodinma yesterday. After making this development known to the public, what many people are asking is, what actions would the Imo State Government take next? This is because it should not end as mere allegations amid controversy. Concrete actions need to be taken to get to the root of the matter with a view to ending the menace of insecurity in Imo. This article talks about two actions Uzodinma may take on the issue.

(1). Uzodinma's government may investigate the allegation made against Okorocha and Nwosu. As far as the issue is concerned, it is still an allegation based on confessions made by suspects in security custody. So, the first action Uzodinma's government should take is to launch an investigation into the issue. This investigation of the accused people will help to reveal more details about the issue. The allegation may be true or false. That is why it is not right to draw conclusion.
The investigation should be thorough and the findings should be factual, credible and presented in an unbiased manner. If possible, the investigation should have some people outside those in the circle of Uzodinma. This is to bring in elements of balance and eschew any thing that may make it appear biased in view of the fact that Uzodinma and Okorocha have been political rivals over the years. Whatever the findings of the investigation is, the Imo State Government can take it up from there.

(2). Uzodinma can bring in the relevant security agencies to handle those accused of sponsoring insecurity. This is another step Uzodinma may take instead of his government doing it by itself. Since it is a sensitive security issue that is at stake, Uzodinma may bring in the police, Department of State Services (DSS) and other relevant agencies to handle the case. They will invite or arrest the accused, investigate the allegations against them and prosecute them if findings suggest that they should be prosecuted.

This second option will disentangle Uzodinma from the web of being seen as victimizing Okorocha and Nwosu who many people see as his political rivals. The truth is that the allegation should not be swept under the carpet even as instances of insecurity are still recorded in Imo. Uzodinma's government should take concrete action to prove that it is determined to get to the root of the matter.
